INCUBUS

"PARDON ME" MUSIC VIDEO

ROLE : DIRECTION, CREATIVE & EDITING

When I received this track and opportunity to write for the music video, Incubus was not yet an international success. They were gaining traction as a local LA band with rabid fans, and this was to be the first single off of their first major label album.

I wrote an extremely long and detailed “treatment” (proposal) for the music video, not yet familiar with the industry norm of keeping it as succinct as possible. I wanted to create a conceptual interpretation of the lyrics, where Brandon (young) and Brandon (old) face each other down a corridor of “time”. As young Brandon walks forward, he ages and as old Brandon walks forward, he becomes younger, until they meet face to face and pass through each other. The corridor also serves as a “gallery” of humanity’s faults and/or pitfalls, where band members are characters within the scenes. A little heady for a first music video, no? Luckily Brandon responded to the concept and the band chose me to direct their first major music video – it was also my first music video to direct.
